Frequently Asked Questions

What is a modern actor headshot ?

A modern actor headshot is a type of portrait photo used by casting directors to help them decide whether applicants have the right profile for a role.

What shall I wear for my business headshot ?

Wear what you would normally wear for an interview. Bring a couple of tops with you so you can experiment

What shall I wear for my actor headshot ?

We want the headshot to draw the attention of the casting director on your face, neck line and shoulders. In order to achieve this, we need to avoid items of clothing that take the focus away from you (large collars, white, fancy jackets, patterns, prints, etc…). Instead, choose simple, well fitted plain colour tops. Bring a selection of top with you so we can make a decision together. For men, black or grey T-shirts work very well (both rounded & V-neck). For women, a simple grey wide strap or thin strap vest is best but you can go for a V-neck or polo collar-neck T-shirt also. Avoid jewellery as it will be distracting to the viewer. If you wear makeup, fine. If you don’t then just come as you are. Avoid bright red lipstick and favour pink ish colours for lips and earth tones for eye shadow. Most important, don’t stress about what to wear and bring something you feel comfortable in. The above is just a guideline so if you have a vision, break the rules.

Where is your studio located ?

I don’t have one. I operate from various places, including meeting rooms across London and I also photograph people in their own homes. This allows me to be closer to my customers and people feel more relaxed

Can you get studio quality headshots without a studio ?

Absolutely. Most of the photos on this website have been taken outside of a studio. Without getting into technical details, studios are not really needed if the photographer is in full control of the light. A studio would be nice though, just to store all my photography gear!

Can I pick my background ?

Yes, you can. I use a very limited and safe colour palette for the headshots. White for business. Green, blue or brown for acting headshots. We will normally talk ahead of your appointment to agree on a colour palette for the wardrobe and background.

Can you come to our office ?

Yes I can. I will bring studio quality lighting to your office. Generally I’m asked to match the look that is currently on your Team Page. Of course, I can work with you to choose a new look for your company’s website photos. Email me for pricing information. This will depend on the size of your team.

Can you photograph me at home ?

Yes I often do.  I will bring studio quality lighting to your home. Most of the photos you can see on this website have been taken at someone’s home.

Do you retouch your photos ?

Yes I do but… I want you to look like you. There’s nothing worse than a headshot that doesn’t look like you and, on that point, casting directors will agree with me. My retouching is very light. Skin blemishes, eye clarity and that’s pretty much it. I will not modify your bone structure or face features in any way. I do apply various colour grading effects to my photo though.

What is your availability ?

I will work with you to schedule an appointment that fits both our calendars. See booking tool above to see when I’m next available.ects to my photo though.

What shall I bring with me for my headshot ?

Your favourite outfits!  Having said that, stay away from big patterns that will take the focus away from your headshot. See this section for more details. We can discuss what may work best for the role you are aiming for. We can also take portraits with different outfits
